Oh, you are quite right, before or after the NYT comments. It's interesting to see these thoughts brought to the fore...they've been lurking in the back of my consciousness, but I've been paying attention enough to other aspects of the Obama appearances (hey, a message!) that it didn't quite register.
Well, it only dimly registered...I also noted something along the lines of "hey, she must be tall; that's cool" and "she's been quite consistent in look...and those clothes aren't coming out of your basic storefront."
